Based on both of the social- and self- cognition, vocational guidance is a process in which one matches well with his speciality or profession. It has such features as the participation of all the members and the whole society, throughout the whole process, and carried out in all aspects, etc. Vocational guidance is a kind of foundational work for schools. It can be conducive to the development of society, to the socialization and the development of individual as well. But at present, it's still one of the weak points in our education at school.This study summarizes the history of vocational guidance in China ani abroad, and analyses its present situation in China. With the application of its modern theories, and on the view of life-long education and career guidance, the author tries to explore the functions, tasks, contents, ways, methods and conditions of the vocational guidance at school, and put forward some practical suggestions on its application.
