This thesis spreads out around a goal of process and method based on the ChineseNational Geography Standards. The author interprets the intrinsic meaning of geographicprocess and method goal, clarifies its value orientation and inquires its implementationstrategies in order to make it understood by geography teachers and implemented forgeography teaching in middle schools and high schools. The main research methods in thisthesis include theory analysis, practical study, consulting documents and summarizingquestionnaires. The thesis is composed of five sections: Section one: The background and true meaning of establishing geographic process andmethod goal are well explained by analyzing the shortage of Chinese Geography TeachingOutline, summing up the modern education theories and connecting with the InternationalGeography Standard, which has widely influenced Chinese National Geography Standard. Section two: Based on the analysis of the questionnaires and the practical study fromauditing geography classes in middle schools and high schools, the author investigates thecurrent situation of implementing geography process and method goal and stresses its correctusage which is often misunderstood by geography teachers. Section three: By comparing the difference between geography research process andgeography 'process', the connotation of geography 'process' is explained and divided intofive levels. In this section the author also interprets the connotation of geography 'method' aswell as the relationship between the 'process' and the 'method'. Section four: The value orientation of geography process and method goal is clarified inthis section. The author's goal is to experience the value of geography, develop geographicabilities, master geographic science methods and cultivate geographic thought during thegeography study. Section five: This section comes up with the following implementation strategies ofgeography process and method goal. First, the analysis of the mistakes often made bygeography teachers can provide some principles when geography process and method goal ismade. Second, analyzing the advantages and the disadvantages of the geography textbooknow used in most middle schools and high schools in China may give the principles andstrategies of establishing geography textbooks with inquiry style. Third, the study style of'initiative inquiry and cooperation' can be advocated during geography study. Fourth,dynamic evaluation, which pays much attention to the implementation of geography processand method goal, can be used as the main evaluation in geography teaching. Finally, from thepoint view of improving teaching quantity, it is necessary to strengthen the training on thenew geography standard and set up correlative curricula in normal universities to raisegeography teachers' cognition about geography process and method goal and accelerate itsimplementation.
