The dichotomy of pedagogy and andragogy has been a research category of andragogy with important domain all the time. This problem with a lot of adult education researchers' attention becomes the cutting entry of disciplinization of adult education. After the sixties of the 20th century, scholars of adult education represented by Knowles started the studying of this problem, but Knowles' view has caused extensive criticism, the reason lies in he only starts with the theory prejudice of criticizing the rival, make the studying of the two's relation lead to absolute opposition, don't appeal to dialogue and conversation. Though Knowles' discussion fails, but the question that he probes into is deep, valuable, according to following controversy, he has deepened the discussion of this question. Knowles' contribution is here promptly. Through combing the antagonistic question of pedagogy and andragogy and controversy caused from this, we can clarify ideology or false appearance in the relation between pedagogy and andragogy. This needs to appeal to the research approach of knowledge sociology, not merely carry on ideology research from the visual angle of the other side, and use this research all visual angles including oneself. This has demanded to not only consider covering and separating to andragogy of pedagogy, and also consider the proper and legitimacy of andragogy, that is, question the possibility of andragogy and how to be possible. The second part of this text has combed the history of andragogy and pedagogy, through probing into the two's social realistic state, in order to try to return to the two's real relation. According to real right state, the cause of slow development of andragogy lies in its inherent predicament more thoroughly. Inherent essence in adult, adult education concept and andragogy lack of thinking deeply, restrain the theory construction of andragogy.
