A Study On The Characteristic Of The Undergraduate Group In American Research University

The American Research University gains world reputation, not only because it has made outstanding contribution to the scientific research, but also because it has trained numerous high quality innovative talents. These high quality innovative talents have made indelible contribution for the development of U.S.A. and even the whole international economy and culture. The undergraduate group is as the most basic part of accepting the education in American research university, and its development concerns whether the American research university could realize its mission of training high quality innovative talents. Meanwhile, the development of undergraduate group will hit" brand" of American research university deeply too, thus show the corresponding characteristics. This paper is exactly devoted to studying the corresponding" characteristics" which the undergraduate group of American research university shows in the process. The study on the characteristics of the undergraduate group of the American research university could not only strengthen our understanding to how the American research university promotes the development of undergraduate group, but also give reference to our country's research university under construction.In order to study the characteristics of undergraduate group in American research university, this paper firstly discusses the function and status of undergraduate group in teaching, research revenue collection and the university evaluation in the chapter two. Then, this paper analyzes the education process of the undergraduate group in three main aspects such as admission, study, and graduation appraisal in chapter three. On the basis of these two chapters, this paper analyzes the three characteristics of the undergraduate group such as elite, technicality and high competitiveness. Finally, this paper analyzes the enlightenments that we can draw from the experiences and lessons of the undergraduate group's development in American research university.
