The first section raises the viewpoint of the thesis, that is, fostering optimistic emotion is an important proposition of the college students' personality education. In order to interpret this viewpoint, it starts from two hands. On the one hand, it respectively expounds and distinguishes the definitions of the professional terms EMOTION and PERSONALITY. What's more, it also explains the relations between the two terms on the theoretical plane, which advocates that the emotion should be in the core position of personality structure. On the other, it creatively puts forward the term of optimistic emotion, and at the same time gives a theoretical analysis of the relations between optimistic emotion and personality education. After this analysis, it points out that fostering optimistic emotion can be thought of as cardinal contents of the college students' perfect personality development in term of theory and by the macro-requirement of the ultimate educational aim.The second section respectively discuses the common characteristics of the college student' emotion and the concrete ones of the optimistic emotion of college students, which maintains that an optimistic student should be able to treat himself/herself, others and objective things optimistically, and should place properexpectations for himself/herself so that he/she is always happy and doesn't lose his/her psychological balance.The third section thoroughly discusses the positive significances of fostering the college students' optimistic emotion on the practical plane and by the micro-requirement of college personal growth. It says that optimistic emotion can help college students to raise their studying efficiency, to prevent and cure their mental diseases, and to overcome all kinds of difficulties so as to evolve their own strong wills.The fourth section gives a minute description of various factors that influence the shaping of the college students' optimistic emotion. The description contains the subject, object and intermediary aspects of the emotional production mechanism.The fifth section advances some concrete principles and educational measures to foster the college students' optimistic emotion on the basis of the analysis of various factors restricting the college students' optimistic emotion development. It proposes that college students should be taught to become optimists, and harmonious fostering atmospheres should be created so as to mould, edify and train the college students' optimistic emotional traits under the guidance of the orientation, subject, permeability and exemplariness principles.
