To cultivate people with wholesome personality, initiative spirit and ability to practice isthe urgent task of modern education and vital content of deepening curriculum reform. Toconvert the students' learning mode, advocating inquiry learning is a shining point of thecurriculum reform of the new century. How to find the conjugation point of inquiry learningand cultivation of students' self-development ability, probing into the ways and methods toput inquiry learning method into the practice of history teaching in junior high school is atough task in front of the history teaching staff. My essay explores primarily the followingquestions: theory and practice significance of self-development education, the connotation ofstudents as main body of learning, the relationship between inquiry learning andself-development of students, the feasibility and ways of putting inquiry learning into thepractice in junior high school teaching. The investigation shows that the following elementshasten the development of students' self-development ability: equality, openness, democracyin concept; independence, cooperation, experience in the process; lifelikeness, diversity,interest in form.
