After going through constant severe tests and reflections of education reforms, people are beginning to realize more thoroughly that the student is the subject of learning and learning methods are important factors that affect their studies and development. To promote the students' all-round development and cultivate their senses of creation and capability of practice, learning methods are an area that calls for immediate attention and reform. The Criterions for Chemistry Curricula in Ordinary High School are aimed at cultivating the students' scientific attainments and advocate various learning methods mainly characterized as inquiry learning, and motivate their initiative and senses of creation, and impel them to learn positively.Inquiry learning is an important achievement of modern western elementary education reform and development and is regarded as a milestone of modern elementary reform and development. However, the research of inquiry learning is still in the stage of beginning and learning methods mainly characterized as inquiry learning have been carried out in teaching practice. The thesis deals with the inquiry learning in chemistry teaching in high school by collecting reference books, teaching practice and testing investigation. The thesis is constituted of five parts: the first briefly introduces the theoretical basis of inquiry learning; the second narrates its essential features and procedures; the third deals with how inquiry learning is carried out in chemistry teaching in theory; the fourth ,based on the writer's own teaching practice, deals with how it is performed in classes of different patterns; the fifth deals with feasible investigation of inquiry learning.
