The key to the success of education and instruction is the professional level and professional literacy of teachers, which is also the core subject in the research of teacher education. With the development of new curriculum reform in basic education, there are more and more schools introducing IT into the classroom. It is a big problem confronting with k12 teachers that how to make full use of digital resources and technology to support learning and so as to improve the quality and effectiveness of instruction. The teacher professional development in the face of informationization of education has become a hot subject in education field which needs to be worked out as soon as possible. The aim of this thesis is to explore the function of virtual learning community in promoting teacher professional development in the face of informationization of education, and give effective strategies for the design of virtual learning community for secondary school EFL teachers. With the use of documental studying method, the author looked through the latest material about teacher professional development and virtual learning community both at home and abroad. Based on these materials, the content of teacher professional development, the tremendous challenge brought by informationization of education and new curriculum reform and the current studying situation of virtual learning community are summarized and abstracted. According to the studying purpose and plan, by the method of general studying, the current situation of virtual learning community of secondary school EFL teachers is observed, much information is gathered, and the popular problem existing in such kind of community is finally found out. Based on all of this, the author gave several strategies for the design of virtual learning community for secondary school EFL teachers, such as encouraging teachers to upload excellent resources and attaching attention to the selection of instructors.
