Nowadays, E-learning based on internet is developing rapidly, which makes it possible to have an active study, all-life study, and socialized study. However, in practice, there exist problems that deserves our constant exploration such as the problem of low efficiency of learning and students on the way drop out and so on. Of all possible reasons, students'motivation of learning is the problem that needs designer's attention and cannot be neglected in the systematic design of instruction. This thesis is presented around the problem of motivation design that is necessary in nowadays online course design, and the thesis goes in three parts: Firstly, through the analysis of both online course structure and the structure of learner's motivation of learning and also through our knowledge of how motivation runs, this thesis illuminates that motivation of learning is not a specific materialized system but a request of designing regarding the aspects of system about learning activity, learning environment and system of knowledge delivering. Secondly, on the basis of both synthesizing all schools of motivation theory and using some scholars'achievement about motivation theory for reference, a model of higher possibility is constructed about the motivation design and it includes 12 elements (attention, interest, relevance, satisfaction, power, confidence, certificate, responsibility, attribution, result, cost, expectation), and the purpose of which is to permeate the elements of motivation into the whole process of designing about online course. Finally, the thesis propose a design strategy that the elements of motivation be integrated with the following elements related to learning such as target, content, resource, activity, evaluation and so on, and the purpose of the strategy is to make learners study actively and maintain their motivation of learning.
