Times of knowledge and economy and the "explosion" of information are great challenges to the traditional teaching methods. The reality of information times indicates that the traditional Chinese teaching methods can't fully reflect the nature of the subject, and can't fully develop students' personality, either; The traditional Chinese classroom environment makes the teachers not be able to perform their duties well, it even alienates the teachers' duties; The malpractice of the traditional teaching methods makes the students lose the ability and spirit to learn by themselves. Therefore, teachers must reconsider and redefine the ways, the procedures and the conducts of traditional teaching methods. The development of times calls for changing the old ways and proposes active and creative study. Comprehensive study is a learning method whose main purpose is to improve students' learning ability, creation ability and co-operation ability so that they can adapt themselves to the future society.With the putting forwards of Basic Education Course Reform, comprehensive study has become the "focus" and "difficulty" of the New Course Reform. How to understandcomprehensive study, how to carry out it and how to evaluate its eifects are the common topics ofmany teachers. My paper will mainly deal with those problems.The whole article will be divided into three parts: introduction, main body and conclusion.The main body is made up of four parts: " the definition of comprehensive study", "the basictheories which direct middle school Chinese teaching to achieve the goal of comprehensivestudy", "The present practical probes in middle school Chinese teaching", and "the problems weshould pay attention to".Comprehensive study is an effective way to foster all-around developed persons. Theimplement of comprehensive study in middle school Chinese teaching is a long exploring course.It will be consummated with the development of education practice and the study of educationtheories.
