The quality of teacher is one of the important factors which affects the quality of education, so the teacher education receives broad attention throughout the world nowadays. How to promote the development of teacher's specialization and improve the quality of the faculty has become a common topic of the educational reform for teachers all over the world. Some western developed countries such as Britain constitute "the Standards for the Award of Qualified Teacher Status" (thereinafter "Standards" for short) for the sake of promoting the development of teachers' specialization and insuring teachers' quality. They use the standards as the authentication standards of teachers' qualification and also as the guideline for regulation the teacher education. This thesis starts from the standpoint of "making foreign things serve China" and makes a case study to the latest revised version of British "Standards for the Award of Qualified Teacher Status", thus affords consultation and enlightenment for our country's reform of the teacher education.This thesis has five parts:The first explains the reasons for doing the research and introduces the present researching situation of this issue at home and abroad..The second part analyses the background of "Standards". The paper holds that the emergence of "Standards" is in fact the product of Britain's efforts to resolve the hazard of the elementary education as an aim to enhance the competitive power of the country. The essential aim of formulating the "Standards" is to strive to improve the qualities of education by improving the qualities of teachers so as to face up to the international competition.The third and fourth part elaborates on the contents, characteristics, functions of the "Standards" and the problems with it.
