With rapid development of the internet, the application of multimedia and internetto instruction cannot be neglected. Many teaching modes with internet attract more andmore attention. However because of the fragmentary research of Web-based learning,the multifarious teaching modes of Web-study, many teachers and students are still atloose ends to them. As a result, a majority of teachers remain making use of traditionalteaching method and few people are able to utilize web-based technically environmentto reform traditional teaching. Web-based learning is seldom put in practice actually. Itis the huge waste of school web information resource, at the same time, it will put offthe process of constituting intending learning mode.Web-based teaching takes independent learning and investigative learning as itsprimary particularity, and is provided with more potential advantages in collaborativeand investigative learning. The conformity of network technology and classroominstruction can structure a teaching mode which meets student physical andpsychological characteristic and era characteristic, can optimize the classroominstruction of middle school and contribute to training students'cooperation spirit andinvestigative capability. So acclimatizing itself to development of the learning andteaching theory such as constructivism etc., it is a kind of effective new-type teachingmode to develop the collaborative learning under the environment of network.From the essential theory of web-based learning and collaborative learning, thispaper introduces the theoretical foundation of web-based collaborative learning. Takingphysics course of middle school as an example, the paper puts forward four kinds oflearning modes: competition mode, collaborative mode, discuss mode and role actingmode.
