The theory based on the multi-medium computer-assisted instruction (MCAI) and physics teaching with MCAI have been researched in this dissertation.. Three aspects have been investigated in this dissertation.First of all, the systematic research of the theory based on MCAI has been taken thoroughly in this dissertation in order to highlight the importance of the theory construction .The begining of research and application of MCAI is very late in our country. The theory foundation is weak relatively. There has not been a complete theory system about MCAI up to now. And there exists the mistake trend of emphasizing practice and ignoring theory, emphasizing operation and ignoring design, emphasizing technology and ignoring effect. To construct a perfect theory is much important to improve the use of MCAI. It is suggested in this dissertation to form the methodology fundaments of instruction design and courseware manufacture in MCAI with psychology, system science and propagation.Secondly, in this dissertation I do my best to unite the theory and practice. Under the direction of instruction design theory and concerning the distinguishing features of physics teaching, the MCAI has been practiced. Two instruction cases have been chosen to practice. The instruction design, test questions design and courseware manufacture has been taken. The instruction of each case has been carried out by traditional method and MCAI method in two classes respectively.Finally, the education messages gotten from test of MCAI instruction class and traditional instruction class have been compared and analyzed with self-designed processing program according to student and problem (S-P) analytic approach . It is displayed that both MCAI and traditional instruction possess the distinguishing features respectively. To think of MCAI being surely superior to traditional education or to think of MCAI being not use to improve the grades of students are both mistake.It is necessary that add the using of MCAI properly in traditional instruction class to stimulate the student's interest and intuitive in studying physics. Particularly, for those physical process and phenomena being demonstrated difficultly by clear interpretation of teacher or for those being demonstrated difficultly with apparatus, MCAI should be adopted to simulate. For those physics instruction that takes MCAI as the main measure, it is necessary that overcome the defects to demonstrate theory analyzing, reasoning and calculating in manufacturing courseware. The traditional method should be adopted still in some subjects which include more reasoning and calculating. In conclusions, the combination of MCAI with the traditional method on the basis of the content of courses in the physics instruction will improve the education efficiency and the education quality effectively.
