With a view to curbing the on-going trend of middle school students' declining imagination and the lamentable situation of poem teaching there, this article envisages the approach on how to foster students' imagination. On the basis of a recipient analysis of the trend in light of constructivism, aestheticism and aestheticism on Chinese teaching, the author expounds the principle of integrating image perception with abstract thought and the dialectical unity of pluralistic interpretations with the original purport.This article encompasses the above-mentioned theories and practical approaches to explore a series of feasible teaching methodologies including creating settings in which students' imagination is elicited, imagining in terms of written language, enhancing students' imagination by means of filling the gap, stretching students' imagination by comparison reading, exchanging comments and views on selected works and developing students' ability of imagination through writing practice. To put the training of imagination to the point, the teachers are supposed to adopt new concepts, to elevate their own aesthetical appreciation, and to be a bridge between students and poems. It is designed to improve students' ability of imagination and to boost the poem teaching in the middle school.
