Our country is concentrating on the construction of Learning-Society and the ability of lifelong learning is one of basic capacities of human survival in Learning-Society. The aims of Open and Distance Education is to promote person's development, Self-Directed Study not only plays the most important roles in promoting person's development and the experimental Open and Distance Education program by CCRTVU, but guides the direction for the educators as well.We take some schools of GSRTVU in YuMen area as examples for this research paper, and the following arguments come from which. The main methods in the paper are questionnaire, interview and so on. We made an investigation on the present condition of Self-Directed Study, the problems hitherto existed and its reasons. On the ground, appropriate suggestions and measures have been proposed.The main contents included in the paper are as follows: the present conditions of distance learners, their learning identification and expectation, the conditions of student support services and management.In this area, we've found the strong points are as follows: the foundation of education and economy are good, strong, and the students eagerly want to be guided, their families give them strong support, etc.At the same time, some weak points are noticeable: Firstly, the systems of student support services are not formed completely. Secondly, too much problems in teaching, studying. Thirdly, learners can't give themselves right self-description. Fourthly, the inner motivation of learning is weak. Fifthly, the level of learner's ability of study is lower.According to the results, some countermeasures and suggestions have been put forward in the paper from different points, just as changing the concept of teachers and students on Open and distance education, accelerating the construction of the system of student support services, paying more attention to teacher's professional development in distance education, strengthening learner's training of information literacy. In addition to, we suggest that it is also important for teachers to prevent from the deviation of the concept of "Student-Centeredness".
