| For the sake of accelerating the reform in higher education and improving the quality of higher education in universities, it is necessary for the university teachers to serve the students because serving the students is not only the professional duty and ethical request of university teachers, but also the demands of respecting the fact that the students are the principal part of the education. Meanwhile, it's also the demand of maintaining the students' legitimate rights and interests, and the demand of developing higher education in new situations. University teachers serve the students, that is to say university teachers implement "the educational contract", working as the supplier of the educational service. By force of professional training and life guidance, university teachers help the students, who are the customers of the educational service, gradually grow up to be excellent talents and qualified social members. The activity that the university teachers serve the students has several features such as mentality, comprehensiveness, complexity, and non-detachability. On the whole, the university teachers are working hard at serving the students in our country. However, as the result of the restriction of the external reasons (such as the national policy, social economy, university management) and the internal reasons (such as the teachers' own ideas, abilities), there exists some problems in the university teachers' serving the students, including indifferent serving consciousness, negative serving attitude, not-so-high serving level, and imperfect serving quality. Because of the insufficiencies mentioned above, university teachers should follow the principles of initiative, scientificalness, fairness and relevance. Establishing new ideas of education one of serving the students improving the teachers' quality, making a good effort to teach and educate the students, establishing effective systems in universities are measures to ensure the university teachers' serving students.
