Since Erik.H.Erickson introduced the concept of identity to psychology and set up the concept of ego-identity, western psychologist had studied it for about 40 years. The psychologist in China began the study of it since 90's 20 century. This paper firstly introduces the related researches that have been undertaken both at home and abroad, then studies quantitatively 727 students from different University at Nanjing, examines their identity crisis condition and characteristics using the methods of Questionnaire Survey. At last, the paper deduces the relationship between educational circumstance and ego identity. The conclusions are as follows:1. Clear difference in gender is shown in the ego-identity development of college students. The college male students develop well in self-confidence and self-consciousness than female students and they show different inclination in ego identity status.2. There is no significant difference in ego identity status between students in Grade 1-2 and Grade 3-4 and they all have a similar tendency in ego identity status except junior college.3. There is no significant difference in ego identity status between students from single-parent family and entire family as well as between the only child and the child who has brothers or sisters. While there is significant difference in ego identity crisis between students from countryside and burghs, especially in self-confidence and self-consciousness4. Educational atmosphere affects the ego identity development of college students. If schools help students establish good relation system, build free, open and promising atmosphere, the ego--identity development of college students can be promoted.At last, the paper points out that the university should establish good culture atmosphere and provide accurate ideology direction in crder to promote the ego identity development of students.
