With the process of China's popularization of higher education, the traditional education models have been challenged. How to form new conceptions of talent, education and education quality and how to establish new education models to meet the public's needs are problems requiring immediate solution faced by local colleges. As great strength of national higher education system, local colleges undoubtedly carry the heavy burden of popularizing higher education and play an irreplaceable role in the increasing of higher education enrollment. The paper will study the education models adopted by independent college against the background of higher education popularization, which will definitely help to rich and develop the theory of China's education models.As a product of the innovation of Zhejiang Province's education system, independent college has brought noticeable results in schooling. However, there are still some problems, such as how to set up colleges' inside management system according to the operating mechanisms of non-state colleges, how to offer courses to meet the needs of socio-economic development, how to strengthen students' social adaptability and competitive power, how to enhance independent college's strength and establish its own characteristics in schooling, how to treat the relationship between an independent college and its back-up college and so on. Especially since 2004 when national education department required independent college to unaidedly issue diploma, how to innovate education models and guarantee education quality to meet with society and parents' approval has become a much severer problem.The paper will begin with the situation of China's higher education development, and then tries to contrast different education models of higher education both home and abroad and contrast the similarities and differences between public college and independent college. The focus will be on the study of the current situation of Zhejiang province's higher education, and the study of how independent college came into being, developed and also its existing problems. The paper makes a conclusion of major education models adopted by independent college in Zhejinag province, respectively introduces some major education models in Zhejiang province such as the "Platform" education model adopted by College of Science and Technology in Ningbo University, and makes suggestions on reforming, innovating and perfecting the "Platform plus Module" education model of independent college in accordancewith the characteristics of independent college students and the local socio-economic development so as to promote healthy development of Zhejiang province's higher education especially independent colleges.
