Social skill refers to a behavior way obtained from learning by the individual to effectively communicate with others in social situations. It is a multi-dimension structure, including skills such as receiving, explaining and controlling social information.The thesis works on the characteristics of social skills development of college students and the factors that influence social skills development of college students. The research adopts measurement method, applies Riggio's SSI and 16PF and formal measurement, and takes 992 college students in Changsha as testees. It draws the conclusions as following:1. There is no obvious difference among grades in social skills development as a whole, but there is rise and fall with different grades:the undergraduates present a shape of U: the freshman and the senior are a little higher, the sophomores and the juniors are a little lower. The 3-year undergraduates rise with grades smoothly and slightly, undulating somewhere. The students from vocational technological institute improve with grades.2. There is difference among grades in certain single aspect of social skills development. The emotionalexpressivity, social expressivity and social sensitivity of the sophomores and the juniors are obviously lower than those of the freshman and the senior . The emotional control and social control of the sophomores are obviously lower than the others. In social expressivity, graduates(in grade 3)from vocational and technological institutes are superior to freshmen, and in social sensitivity and social control, they are obviously superior to freshmen and sophomores.3. The social skills of most college students are developing in balance.4. The factors that influence social skills development of college students are grade, sex, majority, college types, whether they are only children, and financial state. In general social skills, there are obvious differences just between only children and non-only children. There are obvious sex differences in emotional expressivity, emotional control, social expressivity and social sensitivity. There are obvious differences between the only children and non-only children in emotional expressivity, social expressivity. There are differences between majority in emotional sensitivity. There are obvious differences between college types in emotional control, social control. There are obvious differences betweenpoor students and the others in emotional expressivity.5. Personality has some effects on social skills of college students. Those with a free and relaxing personality have higher emotional control, those with an intelligent, persevering, responsible and independent personality have higher social control.
