In our country, we have a large population, but teaching resource is limited, so the development of distance teaching seems particularly important.From primal correspondence teaching to distance teaching with television, and to modern distance teaching, the development of distance teaching of our county experiences three periods of stage. In 2005, a new technology developed rapidly has brought distance teaching's attention, this new technology is IPTV.IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) is a brand-new technology that utilizes infrastructure of broadband network, regards domestic television set or computer as the main terminal device, incorporates many kinds of technology such as Internet, multimedia, communication into an organic whole, offers users many kinds of interactive digital media service, for example, digital TV. This technology will realize the unification of Internet Telecom net and TV net, realize the unity of the user terminal, realize the individualized video service, realize high quality real-time interactivity. Then, what does the appearance of the technology mean to distance teaching? How does it promote thedevelopment of distance teaching?Based on these thinking, this essay researches the development and characteristic of distance teaching and IPTV to realize the combination of them.
