The self-education always holds the important status in the human thought history of education. It is an effective method in human beings' thought and political education. The self-education is an important factor and the effective form for young people's thought and political education. The effects of thought and political finally must be realized through the way of young people's self-education, and be obtained through the examination of the self-education effect. How to establish the core status of the self-education in the education, strengthen the self-education and fully display the function of self-education, is the essential problems, if we want to overcome all sort of current educational malpractices, to find effective implements the education for all-around development, to comprehensively improve the education quality and the efficiency, and to promotes human's overall quality, such as the coordination and the independent development. The article firstly carries on the analysis of the definition of "ego" and "self-education", and them summarized the general characteristic and the basic characteristic in the process of the thought and political education, especially the young people self-education, after the studies of the ancient and modern philosopher and educationalists in China and abroad philosopher. This study points out the particularity of young people the self-education. Next, the article elaborated the necessity and feasibility of young people's self-education in thought and political education. This study provides the powerful rationale and the reality basis for the vital role played by the self-education in the young people's thought and political education. Finally, the study proposed and proved the principle and the method, which the self-education had to persist in the young people's thought and political education process from the perspective of young people's psychology and the physiological characteristic. This study emphasized vital role of the thought and political education in the young people self-education, as well as provided the guarantee for further research on young people's self-education ability.
