Language is the most important way of communication. The final goal of language is to develop learners' ability in both spoken form and written one. English is the most important international communicating way, thus to develop students' ability for real communication is the significant task of teaching English in secondary schools.Task-based Language Teaching , a teaching method of communication approaches, was developed in 1980s. As it focuses on learning by doing, it gradually becomes an international tread. It emphasizes that teachers' teaching process should be based on students' interests, experiences and knowledge level. It helps students finish all kinds of real tasks in life by participating in the various class activities. The process of completing tasks is important and the cooperation between teachers and students is also necessary. It not only helps learners experience the real world., participating in various tasks and communicate in the real activities but makes students gain sense of success and acquisition as well. This is a student-centered teaching method. It can stimulate learners' learning motives and encourage them to use what they learn in class and eventually master the target languages.Task-based Language Teaching not only emphasizes the practising amount of language, but also emphasizes the accuracy of languages. The research on the Task-based Language Teaching is getting more and more popular, especially the new teaching curricular and standard are put into practice. This essay focuses on the basic theories of Task-based Language Teaching, meanwhile it also emphasizes the combination of practice and theory. It covers the following aspects: the concepts of tasks; the basic theories of Tasked-based Language Teaching . Some practical teaching designs for secondary schools.
