Information technology offers not only a new approach to education, but also a challenge: how to cultivate students in obtaining information, how to choose useful information and how to use it to solve practical problems. In order to improve students' self-access learning ability, first of all, we have to offer them various learning materials and resources. Therefore multi-media learning environment came into being.Multi-media learning environment has developed for over ten years. How has it been used and how is the effect? Are there any problems in practice? And if yes, how to solve them?On the base of the theory of Multi-media learning environment, the constructionism, Multi-media learning environment can be classified into two types: individualized learning environment (self-access courseware) and learning network. The characteristics of both types are analyzed in the thesis. The application of multi-media learning environment is also connected with some psychological theories, esp. of educational psychology, such as the process of memory, Wanor's_attribution theory, Alsubell's Meaningful learning theory and Vikoski's Closest developing area theory and so on.After the introduction of the Multi-media learning environment, the thesis describes the investigation and analysis of the application of individualized learning environment (self-access courseware) to the learning activities in Sai Lake Primary School, Fruit Lake Primary School and Wuluo Street Primary School, and those of the application of learning network to the study in the Open University of Hubei. Some problems in designing the Multi-media learning environment are put forth through the analysis and some suggestions are offered with the aid of Psychological theories.More experimental studies are carried out, mainly about meaningful learning, multi-media combination and study leading design. It is concluded that in Multi-media learning environment, the appropriate application of psychological theories can significantly improve the learning efficiency.
