The Research of Chinese Textbooks in Elementary School both about Glossary Constitutes and Common Words Status that by Chenbo (2004) puts forward the concept of signifier item, the intension and extension of signifier item are defined ulteriorly from the aspects of both theory and application in this article. It is considered that the research of signifier item is a kind of application research on word and signifier item is put forward to stand out the factual status of usage of term of meaning. Signifier item is also a word, a minimal unit of language which can be used independently. But,signifier item is a combination with a fixed sound form and a meaning ,which is different form "word". The meaning of "word" concludes one or more meaning, but the meaning of signifier item is a single signifier in the dictionary.The necessary and meaning of signifier item is open out from more aspects: not only the establishment of common word but also the measure of glossary, Chinese information processing and language theory.Secondly,based on the language materials from the first year primary school Chinese textbooks which are pressed by the People's Education Press in 2003, the state of teaching the signifier item are investigated ,that is,the distribution state and the frequency of signifier item are investigated, for example, the distribution of part of speech and the number of term of meaning ,the statistics of frequency and some signifier items in common use.In order to describe the use of signifier item properly, a variable "P" is set, which is evaluated as the quantity of signifier items divided by the quantity of words.The first 100 words from the Frequency Dictionary of Contemporary Chinese Language as the observing object, the relationship between their theoretical P value and their P value in the textbooks is illustrated. It is founded that the P value in the first year primary school Chinese textbooks is different from that in natural language materials, it is special,which is adaptive to cognition level and thinking development level of children.The article tries further to demonstrate the status of the signifier items in the researched textbooks and offers the correlative fact and data in order to help people understand the applicant status of the words in Chinese textbooks of primary school from a new point of view and puts forward some relative fact and theory to the related experts, textbooks complier and Chinese teachers.
