In order to survive and even develop further in such an increasingly competitivesociety, universities and colleges will be surely facing the unprecendented challenges,that is,with the arrival of Knowlege-Economy times and China's entry into WTO, theyhave to change the simple and same school-running modle. The school-runningcharacteristics which universities and colleges have to rely on has been a trend ofhigher education all around the world.The school-running characteristics mainlyexplains what kind of schools to run and how to run schools,which involvesschool-running idea, school-running orientation and talent-training,etc.Thus, theresearch of school-running characteristics not only helps to promote the reform of ournation's universities and colleges,but also to avoid the phenomina of the simple andsame school-running modle,to pursue individuality, and to improve the quality ofschool-running as well.Firstly,based on the analyses of the current situation andproblems of school-running characteristics in China's universities and colleges, thepaper explains the main reasons for the problems.Then,the paper analyses the relevanttheories about school-running characteristics of higher education, which includes theconnotation,the basic characters,main contents and forming process of school-runningcharacteristics. Lastly, according to the analyses of problems and reasons as well aswith reference to foreign experiences of school-running characteristics, the paper putsforward some advisable suggestions to strenghten school-running characteristics.
