Since its reappearance in the 1980s, private higher education, with about twenty years' development, has grown into an important new force of China's higher education. Private universities and colleges (PU&Cs) have taken up approximately one third in number, something as much as the state-owned and adult universities and colleges. The special school-running thoughts created by the presidents of PU&Cs are of very great importance to both the practices and the reforms of the national higher education. Therefore, it is practically and theoretically significant to study the school-running thoughts of the presidents of PU&Cs. What's more, the presidents of PU&Cs generally hold the varied concepts of talents and quality of the higher education, which closely conform to the trend of China to the popularized higher education. As for the patterns and methods of the development and management of the PU&Cs, the presidents creatively draw on the experiences of the international higher education and those in other fields, to open up a unique way of development for the PU&Cs. The thesis also elaborates the important role the school-running thoughts of the presidents of PU&Cs played in national higher education, practically and theoretically.With the introductions and analysis above, the thesis holds a firm view that with the development of private higher education and the enrichment and improvement of the school-running thoughts of the presidents of PU&Cs, some of the presidents will surely become educationists one day.
