As one of the forms of organization, team has been put into practice for a long time. However, the upsurge of studying the team operating theory was started from the vogue of "quantity managing group" in Japan in 1970s. Team has been widely adopted as the new form of organization until now. Especially, team was brought in scientific research in most of universities and institutes. Proved by practice, this new form of organism is very propitious to scientific innovation, and it has contributed a lot to the development of disciplines and the progress of the science and technology. Many foreign scholars discussed the establishment and management of team from different point of views, and made great achievement, but there are still a lot of theoretical indentations.Academic teams in universities and colleges are set as the object in this paper, because nowadays science and technology develop very fast, and the researching function of universities and colleges becomes more and more important, in addition, new scientific discoveries and inventions and great researching progress are hard to be realized by a single researcher. In this case, academic teams in universities and colleges emerge as the times require and catch many people's eyes. But now the study about academic teams in universities and colleges is deficient, especially on the performance appraisal of academic teams. Researchers usually apply performance management theory of business to the performance appraisal of academic teams in universities and colleges. As a result, the particularity of academic team in universities and colleges is overlooked. According to the specialty and the basic theories of team and performance appraisal, the characteristics, objectives, principles, contents and methods are analyzed specifically in this paper. In addition, with the method of combining qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis, affecting factors of the performance level of academic team are presented and discussed systemically in this paper. Thereby the appraisal index system of academic team in universities and colleges is set up. And weights are worked out in mathematic way, so a set of comparatively integrated performance appraisal system is formed finally.
