As the important concept to explain the individual difference, cognitive style is familiar , but the significance for teaching practices have not been explored by far. Moreover, research combining with mathematical character is little. The paper will make efforts to innovate on the preceding aspects. The main goal of the paper is to study the influence of cognitive style on mathematical understanding. The paper uses questionnaire and the document investigation as the research tool, which divides the research into two stages to carry on. The first is to evaluate the type of cognitive style and select the model for contrast at the second stage, which takes the comprehension level and way as the main research dimensions. The findings indicate that, the cognitive style has nothing to do with the overall mathematics attainment. But it affects the solution ability to a particular type of question. The students of analytic style have higher formal level of comprehension than the other type, but the relation level is not the same case. And there are different ways between the wholist-analytic style on mathematical understanding. The former tends to comprehend driven by function, but the latter favors the procedural-driven comprehension.Based on above findings, it is believed that mathematics teachers should fully use the educational resources and select diverse teaching methods. In addition, the evaluation should fully consider the contradiction of short-term and long-term effects of cognitive style. And regard student's attainment with the taste of development.
