Clan is one of the important features of the traditional Chinese society and it plays an important role in village's administration. But since 1980's,along with the changes and the transition of Chinese society, especially the reform of Chinese rural socioeconomic, the changes of Chinese social structural and system affect the existence and development of clan and clan culture greatly. At the same time, the social functions of clan and clan culture undertake great changes in the actual operation of the structure of Chinese rural society.Taking the Yang village in northern Jiangsu province as a case, applying the method of field investigation, looking back the researches that have been taken, the thesis analyzes the influences of clan to the public affairs in such areas that don't have many clan activities and features. The article analyzes the influences and functions of clan from political, economic and social life of village in such fields as the appointment of the Party Secretary, the village committee elections, tax collection land adjustment , family planning and security, education and medical treatment. The conclusions are as follows: The notable clan organization does not appear , but people's consciousness of clan have gotten strengthen than before;The influences of clan for village public affairs has a negative aspect ,and also a positive aspect;The influence of clan to village public affairs shows differences in different fields, actually speaking , it submits weak tendency in the appointment of the Party Secretary, tax collection , public order, education and medical treatment, but in other fields ,people's consciousness of clan have gotten strengthen .Clans don't handle the public general affairs of village directly but affect formal organizations of village through indirect way.
