Based on the investigation of Tang jiadu village in Huanggang city Hubei Province, the history of the reciprocation of village governanceance and patriarchal clan in this village were analysised and described. At the end of Ming Dynasty and the beginning of Qing Dynasty, The Village was set up through immigration. During the Periods of Qianlong and Jiaqing Emperor, several communities based on consanguinity were formed. And they developed into patriarchal clan which was ruled by itself during the periods of Tongzhi and Guangxu Emperor. After the middle and late of the republic China, the village practiced Bao Jia System until the founding of PRC. Since then, the village evolved mutual-support team, elementary corporatives, advanced corporatives, the people's commune and administrative village. During the evolvement of village governanceance pattern, patriarchal clan was like a red thread running through the evolvement. The role of it was obvious or not, dominated or subordinate. The village governance and patriarchal clan interacted tightly. Patriarchal clan participated in village governance including daily relationship villagers and public affairs. Its function is either direct or indirect, and either positive or negative. However, during the interaction of village governance and patriarchal clan, what factors play the major roles and what is the developing trend of village governance and patriarchal clan? The stuay shows that the mutual relation of the village governance and patriarchal clan depends on pattern ofvillage governance and the latter depends on the state of politics, economy, culture and rural policy of the governancement. At present, the realization of village governance pattern is the result of strategic game of the main bodies of village. The evolvement of village governance pattern was dependent on recognition of rural society by the country and development of villager power. The future of patriarchal clan will adapt to the evolvement of village governance pattern and finally adapt to modernization and urbanization.
