Some researchers have probed the etiology of depressive disorder on the angle of biology and psychology. Other researches have proved that harmful parenting style is an important factor that has children suffer from depressive disorder. In order to probe into the mechanism of how parenting style causes depressive disorder, this article researches the characteristics of depressive disorder patients'self-schema as well as the correlation with parenting style.The research investigated 83 hospitalized depressive disorder patients from a mental hospital in Guangzhou and 145 health people using Self-rating Depression Scale, Parental Rearing Styles Questionnaire and Self-schema Questionnaire, and the data was analyzed with some statistical methods such as t-test and correlation analysis. Conclusions as follows:1. Parental rearing styles of depressive disorder patients are inclined to lack of warmth and understanding, more harsh punishment and refusal.2. Depressive disorder patients'self-schema shows more avoidance, more compulsive and more dependence.3. Depressive disorder patients'self-schema is significantly correlated with parental rearing styles, which shows that harmful parental rearing styles are important factors resulting in negative self-schema, and negative self-schema is one of the causes of depressive disorder.At the last part of the article, some appropriate suggestions in order to prevent or cure depressive disorder were given :(1) A good parenting style. (2) Psychotherapy eliminating patients'negative self-schema. (3) Family therapy.
