The Study Of The Relationship Between Mother's Parenting Style And Its Warm Expression

Warmth expression is an important dimension of parenting,reflects the parent's emotional acceptance of children.Positive expression of warmth plays an important role in children's social emotional ability,peer relationships,and mental health development.Mothers' warmth and acceptance are associated with their children's positive behavioral and academic outcomes.Parenting style refers to the trend of parents to raise their children in daily education and reflects their parenting philosophy.In family education,as the main adopters,maternal warmth have a profound influence on the development of young children.Therefore,this study intends to explore the current situation of maternal expression of warmth and the classification of parenting styles,as well as the relationship between maternal parenting patterns and their warmth expression in China.This study selected 175 preschool mothers from two kindergartens in Shanghai.The modified version of Parenting Styles Dimensions Questionnaire(PSDQ)is used for evaluating the level of authoritative and authoritarian of the participant.Besides,mothers agreed to attend the 30-minute interview about the importance of expressing warmth,amount of warmth expressed as well as reasons and specific practices of expressing warmth.In this study,we use SPSS19.0 to analyze the data by means of descriptive statistics,variance analysis,correlation analysis,regression analysis,and cluster analysis.The research results were listed as follows:(1)The importance of expressing warmth and the amount of warmth expressed were in a relatively high level.Among the reasons of warmth expression,child's development has the highest score of the other reasons,by contrast,the score of family relationship and child's receptivity to adult teaching was reported in a relatively low level.In the various practices of expressing warmth,the level of physical and verbal expressions is the highest,indicating that mothers are likely to embrace,kiss and using the words with love to their children,but less likely to report using fostering affective involvement and guidance.(2)The importance of expressing warmth has significant differences in mother's education.Only child or not,mother's education,and child's gender have significant differences in maternal instinct.Child's gender shows a significant difference in physical and verbal expressions.Compared with female children,mothers cited more physical nurturance and support to male children.(3)Authoritative parenting is positively correlated with the degree of importance of maternal warmth expression,and is also significantly positively correlated with the amount of warmth expressed.Authoritarian parenting is negatively correlated with the degree of importance of maternal warmth expression,and is also significantly negatively correlated with the amount of warmth expressed.(4)Three major clusters of parenting style were found: high authoritative-low authoritarian parenting followed by high authoritarian-low authoritative parenting and low authoritative-low authoritarian parenting.(5)There are significant differences in dimensions of warmth expression among three different parenting styles.The high authoritative-low authoritarian mother is significantly higher in importance of warmth expression and actual warmth expressed than the high authoritarian-low authoritative and low authoritative-low authoritarian mother.Parenting style shows a significant difference on satisfying daily routine needs and being together with children.Among various reasons of warmth expression,there are significant differences on parenting styles between family external factors and children's development needs.
