Investigation And Study On Current Situation Of The PECourse Reform In The City Middle Schools Of Guizhou Province

As the full-scale reform of the elementary education moves on, the reform in the physical education has also got involved in this round of course reform. In the September of 2001, the course of PE and Health began to have its nationwide try-out in the 38 state-level middle/elementary schools as the experimental areas. During the implementation of the quality education in middle schools, the subject of PE takes an important part with its unique teaching methods in the educational field, which could not be taken the place of by other subjects. To meet the requirement of the quality education, the Ministry of Education in December of 2000 issued the Outline of Physical and Health Education for full-time elementary schools and junior- and senior-high school. It led to a fundamental change in the guiding ideology for the physical education, which accordingly resulted in the change in its teaching goals, contents, manners, assessment and such a series of relevant elements. In practical operation, the shift in roles of teacher and students is asked for (teacher as the chief guide and students as the main participants; both are involved in the teaching); considering the content, learner autonomy and learner decision are focused on; the curricular assessment and evaluation becomes more flexible. These changes have brought physical education a qualitative leap at the theoretical level, however, it remains an issue worth approaching that how to make rational combination of the theories and the practice and how to obtain the expected practical effect with the guidance of theories having its full play.In 2001, Guizhou was placed as an experimental province where four state-level experimental areas were delimited.
