Research On The Transition Of Headmaster's Role In School Management

The role of a headmaster represents the social status and the position of him among the social relations. It also includes the patterns of behavior, the expectance of the society and the realization of their own behavior. Both of the roles of the headmaster and the role behaviors should be changed, adjusted, enriched and developed with the social change and the whirling of the time.In the school management, the work details, the role of the career and the role behavior of headmasters will be changed correspondingly. Traditionally, the headmaster is regarded as the administrator of the school and the instructor. Yet, those roles cannot cover the change of the role behavior of the headmaster. Proper awareness of the role behavior of the headmaster in school management is helpful to the introspection and the action of the headmaster so as to maximize the efficiency. Therefore, it is emergent to solve the problems which exist in the role of the headmaster and the problems of how their roles to adjust with the change of the society.The survey reveals some problems concerning with the role behavior of the headmaster in the school management, such as to still manage the school in traditional way, to obtain the material for a school passively, to run a school in a closed way, to overlook the efficiency of the school management, to ignore the role of the educational experts, etc. Analysis shows that the main reasons for the problems of the role behavior of the headmaster are the unclearness of the property relations, the restrictions by the position of an administrator, the fuzzy concept about school management and the confliction of the roles, etc. In order to make the role behavior of the headmaster adapt to the management of the school, it is advisable to reform the property relations of the school, to carry out the transition to the professional headmaster, to manage the school properly and to change the role of the headmaster correspondingly.
