With the development of the reform for education in China and a focus on the improvement of the overall quality of students, the purpose of the college physical education (PE) shifts accordingly from the current development of the students to a future potential for the students. The college physical education underlines the cultivation of the students' interests in physical exercises, which will help them to build in mind a concept of a lifelong physical exercise, together with the training of skills and knowledge. The paper utilizes the theory of behavioral transmission and takes 1251 college students in Shanghai as the research sample. The study approaches are literary investigation, questionnaires, data statistics and experts interviews. With these instruments, the paper investigates into the procedural characteristics of college students' exercises behavior and the influential factors upon them; as a result, the author reaches a conclusion as follows:1. The physical exercises of college students in Shanghai displays a procedural characteristic. The distribution forms for students of different grades and genders are approximately identical, namely a standard deviation.2.The physical exercises of college students in Shanghai displays an unstable characteristic. Students who form the habits of physical exercises will lose the same habit no matter which grade they are in. And some students are in an occasional pattern for physical exercises rather than a habitual pattern. Besides, the ratio of the junior and senior students who abandon the habit of physical exercises is higher than that of the freshman and sophomore.3. Among those investigated college students, 17.30% of the male students have the habit of physical exercise, while 21.73% of them do not have the habit at all, and 60.97% of the male students take part in the exercises. As to the female ones, the figures are respectively 8.75%, 25.20% and 66.05%. Generally speaking the situation of the male students is better than that of the females.
