An objective of history subject which is called 'Process and Method' (PM) is advancing in the middle school. It has impacted forcefully on the old instructional method which only likes memorizing a large sum of facts but ignores to study the history itself and students personalities, and also played important guiding and oriented roles in fulfilling the educational contributions of history subject.Whether the educational objectives could be realized in the instruction or not, Measure and Assessment (MA) indeed become 'baton'. However, it is still need to systematically studied in such question that how to realize the objective of MA in the process of instruction in the processing and qualitative ways. Nowadays, when the new curriculum reform is being carried on like a raging fire throughout the whole country, the question that how to realize the objective about PM in the designations of The College Entrance Examination to the become an urgent assignment which plays an important oriented roles in the development of history subject, so it is worth studying professionally.The thesis focuses on the case study of history subject in Grade 12 in British Columbia (BC) province of Canada and discusses three issues as follows: First, the Prescribed Learning Outcomes are concentrated on the learning methods of history subject. Second, criterion-referenced evaluation should be used in classroom instruction. And lastly, norm-referenced evaluation is used for large-scale system assessment. Besides, it also explores Chinese College Entrance Examination of history subject to develop its fundamental and advantageous factors which reflect the objective about PM in the history subject. It is as follows:Based on the synthesis of literature and concerning researches, the first part describes the main study problem and its framework.The second part summarizes the overall setting of history subject in BC and compares it with the history subject objectives in the UK and the U.S.A.The third part analyses criterion-referenced evaluation used in instruction and norm-referenced evaluation used for large-scale system assessment in BC in the aspect of PM.The forth part explores the College Entrance Examination of history subject in China, and develops the fundamental and advantageous factors to further objective about PM.The fifth part gives some advisable conclusions on the development of measure and assessment of objective about PM in Chinese history subject.To sum up, the thesis makes contributions on the following points: First, it analyses the case of history subject in Grade 12 in British Columbia (BC) province of Canada, which could use for reference to develop China history subject. Second, it explores the College Entrance Examination of history subject in China and its fundamental and advantageous factors, which could further the techniques of measure and assessment in history subject and realize the objective in processing and methodological way.
