At present, school education, primary and junior middle school included, is shifting from examination oriented education to quality education in China. During this period, some traditional ideas and teaching methods are being lashed and their evaluation needs to be renewed. Some measures like abandonment, reinforcement and adjustment are being taken to suit the educational development. However, punishment is one of the key problems. As a traditional teaching method, should rational punishment still be used in modern teaching in primary and junior middle schools? Or if used, which aspects of punishment should be adjusted to the practical educational situations? The study on this point will help lessen the heated argument on punishment, as well as regulate the teaching methods and approaches. The study explores some problems which are caused by punishment. Basically speaking, these problems, for example, there is no clearly defined about the situations of punishment or even if punishment is being performed, the means of punishment is not appropriate, etc. are drawing more attention in the field of teaching. Therefore, regulating the ways of punishment is becoming necessary when punishment is used on students in school. The study discusses punishment from the view of moral education, distinguishing the differences of punishment between moral education and outside moral education. Its findings are that punishment overgeneralized outside the moral education turn worse and worse, so punishment of moral education is badly in need of some correction measures. On the other hand, some appropriate punishment as subsidiary teaching methods are urgently needed in the field of moral education. These findings on the punishment won't go against quality education at all..The implication of the study is that punishment of moral education will have great effect on students and the ways of punishment must be regulated and rationalized. So punishment should be ensured by the laws and institutions.
