Scientific inquiry is a research activity in which scientists take the nature world as the object and aim at achieving the mystery of nature world, the process of which forms and reflects all the capability and attitude of human cognition of matters. It's an important sign of education modernization to introduce scientific inquiry to the field of education and bring the students' learning in the inquiry fashion. The theory of inquiry learning has been advocated by many educationists since the twenty-first century, which has been outspreaded worldwide by the end of twenty-first century. Some misleading areas are revealed in the reflection on our country's ten-year practice of chemical inquiry teaching, which are as follows: first, equating chemical inquiry learning with experimental inquiry; second, formulizing the process of inquiry learning; third, emphasizing the process while neglecting the results; forth, results of chemical inquiry learning getting close to certainty and obturation. Getting out of the misleading areas requires the recognition that inquiry learning as a processive learning, is more a state of internal recognition and dynamic developing process of knowledge, which can be understanded only if the students comprehend the utility of inquiry method.Examination of neoteric development of chemical science shows that chemical scientific research can be categorized to three modes: conclusive mode, deductive mode and modern conclusive-deductive dialectic mode. Case study of chemical inquiry learning suggests that it is beneficial in achieving the development goal and developing student's scientific quality regarding the knowledge-skill, process-method, sensibility-attitude-value view that we take the three modes as the strategy of chemical inquiry teaching, accord to the general process of raising questions, assuming hypothesis and seeking answers, thus further deepen understanding, testifying hypothesis and drawing conclusion and effectively use the series of ingredients of prediction, experiment, observation, reasoning, data interpretation and variable control.
