Variety of assessment is the important character of portfolio reform under the background of new curriculum reform. Only developing various assessment tasks in the practice of portfolio and using all kinds of assessment ways, can the teacher assess students'study and development wholly in all types of target regions. New types of assessment ways such as portfolio come into the field of vision of primary and middle school teachers in china just under such background. In my dissertation, I expound the history background, theory basis and the importance of the emergence of portfolio on this base, I inspect the practice of portfolio in Hui Middle School in Huhhot as a case research. I try to find the causes of the problems and I have a try to provide some reasonable suggestions about how to use portfolio effectively in primary and middle school. For examples, we should be active and stable during the course of introducing and spreading portfolio and we should pay attention to connect it with the practice and present situation of the local area. We should use all kinds of effective measures to lead and encourage teachers, students and parents to use portfolio effectively. We should connect portfolio with teaching well. We should use portfolio accompanying with other assessments. We can also create electronic portfolio because it's hard to reserve it and manage it. In this way, portfolio will be widely used in primary and middle school.
