University curriculum integration is the reflection of increasingly integrated modern society and science and technology, outcome of close relationship between universities and society, and logical requirements of development of higher education itself. The writer of this paper looks at the problem historically and uses the method of comparison and contrast. Based on a vast literature, the writer compares and analyzes the theories and practices which the higher education has been carried out in U.S.A., England, France, Japan and China. On the other hand, the writer also analyzes the studies of university curriculum integration historically. Based on the paper approaches the subject from four different angles. Firstly, to start with basis of curriculum integration the writer analyzes that social factors are external basis;knowledge is the direct basis and college students' own development is internal basis. Secondly, the writer systematically discusses the connotation, features, functions and limitations of university curriculum integration. By analyzing and sorting through the standpoints of predecessors and making comparison with related concepts, the writer reveals the connotation of university curriculum integration from five aspects. In order to increase people's knowledge of university curriculum integration, the writer inquires into traits of it such as its entirety, centralization, openness, flexibility and modernization. The writer also probes into the basic function and limitations of university curriculum integration and its influences on universities, society, knowledge and students' learning process. Thirdly, the writer expounds and proves five principles of university curriculum integration. That is, the marriage between specialization and synthetic;diversification and unity;theory and practice;constructional integration and functional integration;learner's cognitive strategies and structures of disciplines. Finally, the writerlays a particular stress on such three aspects as integration between discipline and society, integration between disciplines and integration between discipline and learners. According to this analysis, the writer discusses the content, course and models of university curriculum integration. On the basis of these four parts, the paper aims at enriching the knowledge of university curriculum integration, broadening the study field of university curriculum integration and providing certain guideline of putting curriculum integration into practice. The research arrives at a conclusion that the study of university curriculum integration should not stay on the integration between disciplines. With the development of society, college students' development needs become diversified. The university curriculum integration should stress more on the integration between discipline and society and the integration between discipline and learners.
