With the development of advanced technology and the coming of the Information Age, no longer can schools shoulder alone the important task of educating the young. Only with families, schools and community working hand-in-hand can their concerted educational efforts best serve the multi-faceted growth and development of young people. In order to solve the crisis of common schooling, the home-school partnership has been highlighted by the American educators since the World War Two. In China, with the development of our economy and the advancement of our society, home-school partnerships have been an important part of our education system's reconstruction since the 1990s. Besides much theoretical research, many educators have sought to find an effective and workable approach to home-school partnerships. In order to promote further development of our home-school partnerships, the writer compares and analyses the status quo in China and America by tracing back the respective courses of their development, and presents some suggestions.The thesis consists of six parts, and includes an appendix, references and a postscript.Part One. The Preface introduces: (1) the reasons for the research; (2) the definition of the concept; (3) research objectives; (4) research methods; (6) the purpose and significance of the research.Part Two. The theory of the research.Part Three. A summary of the literature. A summary of the regulations and laws relating to the home-school partnerships of two countries.Part Four. The development of home-school partnerships in China and America. According to the history and sociology of family in the two countries, to divide the development of home-school partnership in China and America into 2 and 3 phases respectively.Part Five.
