Task-based learning is becoming more and more popular in the field of second language acquisition and foreign language learning. In the recent 15 years, there exists a great deal of research on the task-based learning approach both in theoretical and practical aspects.It is widely acknowledged that reading is a most important part of language learning, but the learners face many problems in reading processes which prevent them from becoming fluent readers both in reading for pleasure and in reading for information. The present study is aimed to help the students to solve reading problems through the task-based learning approach, which has been researched little up to now. This study is an application of task-based learning in a new field.In the whole procedure of the study, the teacher first analyzed the main problems in senior three students from her own teaching experiences and class observation. The main problems are as follows:1. the problems with prior knowledge2. the problems with vocabulary3. the problems with reading skills4. the problems with reading rate5. the problems with reading strategiesThe subjects chosen for the study are 90 students from two intermediate classes of grade three from Sanhe No.2 Middle School, Hebei Province, which are my teaching classes. One class with 45 students is the control group, which uses the traditional PPP method; the other class with 45 students is the experimental group, which uses the task-based approach, I designed different tasks for the reading classes with different problems to solve. After three months of teaching using the task-based learning approach and traditional PPP approach, I tested the two groups to see whether the task-based approach was more effective or not than the traditional approach. The data was collected by experimental and questionnaire methods, After the data was collected, I then analyzed the data and compiled the results.
