| With more emphasis on foreign language teaching in educational circles, the education of foreign language teachers becomes the focus of such studies. Thus the topic on foreign language teachers' professional development turns out to be the central one, which concerns the national foreign language education strategies, such as policy planning, education goals setting, syllabus revision, curriculum design, textbook writing, teaching method implementation, foreign language teacher training and certification standards, etc. Obviously, such research is very complicated and important in foreign language education in China.The new curriculum reform pays much more attention to the development of students and, at the same time, it demands the changes of students' learning ways and teachers' teaching. So, English teachers should stand higher and learn to improve themselves by doing action research, teaching reflection and receiving further education.This paper is about the theoretical and quantitative research on the reasons and orientations of self-development of English teachers in secondary schools. The science and education can make the country prosperous and the base is education. The key to the education reform depends on the teachers and the education beliefs of the teachers. The prerequisite and effective security to implement the quality-oriented education is to enhance the quality of the teachers. The self-development for English teachers should be autonomous. To be a self-developing teacher, the teachers should learn to reflect their teaching continuously and rationally and seek newer, better and more scientific methods of teaching. |
