One important issue of the education reform of the current primary and secondary school is on how to cultivate and develop students awareness of the application of mathematics. High school mathematical curriculum standards (experimental version)," promulgated in 2003 aims at developing the awareness of the application of the students' mathematics as an important objective in teaching and make systematic and clear demands. Currently there are several results of the theories on the subject of research and teaching design, but in light of local conditions, system teaching strategies, comprehensive development of students' mathematical application awareness for the pilot study is unusual. The paper is explored in this part.The author of the paper conducted a survey of the status of the students on how to improve the students' awareness of applied mathematics, considering the local students. In the meanwhile, the author makes further study on how to improve the students' awareness of applied mathematics and applied ability. The article is divided into five parts. From the first part, the concept and meaning of the mathematical application awareness is comprehensively expounded in theory. And applications for mathematics, applied mathematics and levels of mathematical applications are made further study. The second part is on how to cultivate the students' psychological base of the mathematical application awareness and its functions in mathematical modeling Part Three gives an investigated result of local high school students' mathematical application awareness and describes the status of the application awareness. Part Four analyzes the factors on developing the students' awareness of application of mathematics according to the investigation. Part Five proposes the main ways on developing the students' mathematical application awareness and gives more systematic teaching strategies and the process and results of the pilot study are developed using these teaching strategies for the development of students' awareness of the application of mathematics.The study shows that in teaching mathematics in high school, if we pay more attention to the application of mathematics with the existing textbooks and appropriate teaching strategies we can effectively raise the students' awareness of applied mathematics and applied ability.
