With the development of national economic, the need of graduates from the secondary vocational schools is increasing, however, the quality of the teaching is decreasing influenced by many factors. How to improve the quality of teaching is an imminence task for the people who work in these schools. The author, as a teacher, who works in a secondary vocational school, tries to study the way to improve the quality of teaching, in order to develop the project.The thesis is based on the investigation in the Gansu coal industrial school. Using the way of questionnaire, inquiry, and case analyzing, the reason why the quality of teaching is not up to standard is to be analyzed. It come to the conclusion that the quality can be improved by changing the style of the assessment of the students and changing the way of teaching.Basede on the practice of he Gansu coal industrial school, the author put forward a proposal that the quality is improved effetely by carrying out the formative assessment.It can be found out, because of poor education, many parents put little attention to the study of their children, and their expectation is not fit to the fact of their children. In those schools, professional knowledge is regarded more important than basic knowledge, good surroundings is lack in the studying of Chinese. The Chinese teachers who have little interesting in teaching, lack of new idea, are not compare with those who the students expect. the students are not dissatisfaction of the way of the teaching and assessment, put attention to the practice of Chinese ,show too high expectation to the teacher.The thesis discuss the necessarily of the reform of the assessment combining with the characteristic of the secondary, the demand of education of intrinsic, the inspiration from the international reform of the teaching assessment. In the final, the author consider that these school should carry out the formative assessment, improve the quality of teaching and studying by assessment. It is to say Promptly that enhance the comprehensiveness, the development, the encouragement, and the variousness of assessment. The way lay stress on variousness of the subject ,the content ,the way of the assessment. The practice of the Gansu coal industrial school shows that using the way of formative assessment is able to bring the enthusiasm of the students and improve the quality of the teaching.
