English is the most popular language in the world. It will be great obstacles if one doesn't know English. So, English is one of the required courses in vocational schools of Shanghai, English is also the required technical ability that students in vocational school must know well. However, English textbook is always the most important thing in our English teaching, and it is one of the problems that English teachers concern a lot in their daily practicing and, in vocational schools, it exists as well.From 1996 on, Shanghai Education Committee has set about reforming the curriculums of vocational and technical education and set up textbook construction, it is called "10181" project in short. The book English textbook for vocational school is compiled by Shanghai Foreign Language University and the Education Bureau of Hongkou District in Shanghai, the main compiler is Professor Huangyuanshen. The textbook began to publish and issue in 1998, and it is used in most vocational schools of Shanghai.In this paper, I selected document and survey method, and according to some interrelated theories on teaching and textbook, I analyses the version and the using state of the book English textbook for vocational school , and I also collected the user's evaluation from teachers and students in vocational schools of Shanghai. I try my best to analyses and evaluate this textbook in an integrated way, in order to find out its advantages and disadvantages to make some appropriate suggestions for our textbook using and English teaching. I hope this paper will fulfill what I want to do.This paper is made up of five chapters.The first chapter is the introduction, consists of the background, the aim and meaning, the contents and the methods of this paper.The second chapter summarizes the researches and studies of textbook, English textbooks and the English textbooks of vocational education.The third chapter is the analyses of the book English textbook for vocational school, by analyzing the main guiding and structure of the textbook, the layout of the textbook, the organization and arrangement of contents, and the viewpoint of...
