A Research On European Eco Schools Programme

At present with the rapid economic development of our country and the continual acceleration of industrialization, the people's life is increasingly improving and the comprehensive national power is evidently strengthened. However, at the same time the destruction of the environment is becoming more and more serious. The problems of the deficiency of energy, the pollution of the environment and the rapid growth of the population have become the bottlenecks of our country's further development. So it's of great necessity and impendency to have environmental education and education for sustainable development to the people, especially to the students.European Eco Schools is an international programme, it's aim is to promote the students' environmental awareness and the development of the skills. It was developed in 1994 by the Foundation for Environmetal Education (FEE), and now it has expanded to Africa, South America, Australia and Asia, the schools participating in the programme are growing more and more. Eco schools proposes the students' positive participation, advocates multi-curricular and cross-curricular teaching methods, calls for sustainably improving environmental education. Eco Schools displays new environmental education ideas and in practice it has achieved good results as well. Eco Schools programme mainly includes seven key elements: eco-committee, environmental review, action plan, monitoring action and evaluating progress, linking to curriculum, involving the whole school and the wider community and eco-code. It also contains four steps: registering interest in the programme, implementing the seven elements of the programme, applying for one of the three Eco Schools awards, and renewing the award every two years to sustain the Eco Schools status.This paper analyzes the whole process of Eco Schools, summarizes its experiences and demonstrates deeply according to our country's Green Schools, and through the study of our Green Schools' development and existing problems, points out the deficiencies and gives some advice on how to use the experiences of European Eco Schools for reference.
