Research On The Roles Of Tutors In Universities

In modern society, career is not only defined as a role, but also defined as a social position; hence, the role played in certain career circumstance is the career role. Tutor, himself, as the teaching staff in colleges and the supervisor of student affairs, is also a kind of career role. Based on the role theory in sociology, this article has given a systematic research on the tutors' roles from tutors' own experience and feeling point of view. The key point that the author wants to show in this article is "What is the feeling of college tutors about their roles in the student work?"After deep interviews with 12 full time tutors from 5 public universities, 2 tutors from "3+1" projects, 5 university students and 1 leader from university student affair office, and also survey in three a.m. universities, the article has described college tutors' roles from four aspects, which are role expectation, role study, role-playing and role maladjustment. The article was written in a categorization order, combined with scenic description, which means explaining every category with supporting cases, segments and profiles.On top of the description of the situation of tutors' roles, this article has analyzed and summarized the internal and external reasons which cause the situation, includes responsibilities undefined, rights and obligation unequivalent, career development unclear; in the meantime, the mental, political and educational characteristic in modern era, the interest, character and value opinion of individual tutor are also the reasons. At the end, the author also raised her suggestion for the construction of college tutors' team.This article contains three parts:The first part is chapter 1, mainly includes research background, focus questions, literature summary, theoretical basis, problems of study, research process and methods.The second part, also the main part of the article is from chapter 2 to chapter 5, describes the situation of tutors in role expectation, role study, role-playing and role maladjustment.The third part is chapter 6, the conclusion part of the article, includes the analyzation and summarization of the reasons and further suggestions for the construction of tutors' team.
