The headteacher who is the manager, organizer and director in the class plays the role of tutor in the students’overall growth. He is the school leaders’ right hand in carrying out educational and teaching plans. Meanwhile, he should coorainate the educational work of every subject and connect school and family and social education. The role of headteacher who is endowed with a code by society seems to be well known to us.Based on "the role of headteache", I observed headteachers and other related social subjects in z school for nearly a semester. In the meantime, I entered the study site as an insider, then collected firsthand information by making using of participant observation and deep interview, in order to present the effection of social subjects on the headteacher and the real scene about the role of headteacher in school field.Following the fundamental sequence of "role expectation—role cognition—role playing", I dicided my paper into5parts. The first part is introduction, including origins, summaries, process of the research as well as the definition of the core concepts. The second part is role expectation. In this part, I tried to show a panorama of role expectations from external subjects including country, school, teachers, parents and students. On that basis, I focused on the codes which were endowed with by external force. The codes were political codes, moral codes and responsible codes. The third part is role cognition. As the most immediate manager, school plays a dominant role in the role of headteacher, by planing time, making regulations and feedbaking evaluations. Facing this military control, the group of headteachers became divided:the Positive, the Submissive and the Resistant. On that basis, I further analyzed the internal factors influencing their differentiation. The fourth part is role playing. In this part, I present the current situation and the playing roles of the headteacher in z school form horizontal and vertical angles. The final part: discussions. Form the individual perspective, role qualifies everyone as a member of society. In light of the angle of social development, the role’s value reflects a technology of managing society. Role is a main way that the society can control their members. So in the school field, the role of headteacher also evolves into a tool of controlling. On that basis, I further analyzed the main controlling mechanism among the role of headteacher.
