The Teacher Authority In Adult Education

This research focus on the microcosmic world of adult education, using a qualitative approach called participant observation in an extracurricular university. Try to use the concept of teacher authority to see about how is the situation of teachers in nowadays adult higher education.There are 6 chapters in total.Chapter I introduces this research about its origin, meaning, research method and the writing of educational ethnography.Chapter II describes the concept of teacher authority from a academic perspective. According to some interrelated books and articles, I give my own understanding and usage of the concept teacher authority. Also, I introduce the adult educational situation in the title.Chapter III tells a story around a classroom in P extracurricular university. P extracurricular university is a school of adult higher education which is located in downtown Shanghai. This research is trying to put the attention on the adult higher education, especially the background is this kind of society in which information explode, and the economic is highly developed. In the first part of the chapter, I introduce this extracurricular university which is located in the city and my feeling to be in the university, and describe the circumstance in which the university is. The second and the third part describe the real situation existing in P extracurricular university with the perspective of "stage" from Erving Goffman, and how people in the situation explain their own activities.Chapter IV keeps on telling some detail about the story, and declare the theory cares about the story which is told in chapter III. I point it out that the efficient amse is that the career self-identity is not strong enough for the adult teachers in adult higher education, the students are influenced by the knowledge toolization, and try to open out a deeper reason.In chapter V, I reviewed my research.In chapter VI, I pointed out the problems existing in the adult education.
